The 2024 ACCPA National Conference, held in Adelaide this October, brought together 2,500 delegates and 190 exhibitors to explore transformative opportunities in aged care. Under the theme “Age of Excellence: Inspire, Innovate, Impact,” the event showcased the sector’s readiness to embrace reform, technological advancements, and collective learning to achieve world-class care for older Australians.
Telstra Health was proud to participate in this premier event, aligning with key themes to demonstrate our commitment to shaping the future of aged care through innovative and connected digital solutions for improved outcomes.
A recurring theme across sessions was the urgent need for long-term financial sustainability in aged care. Panels delved into the 23 recommendations from the Taskforce on Aged Care, emphasising investments in infrastructure, such as new beds and home care programs, and advocating for equitable access to services.
Telstra Health is already addressing these challenges with solutions like Power Billing and Revenue Collection (PBRC), integrated with our Resident Manager software. This integration streamlines billing and revenue processes, ensuring providers can optimise revenue collection while maintaining a high standard of care. Our tools empower aged care providers to efficiently manage costs, meet regulatory requirements, and enhance investor confidence—key elements for securing the sector’s future.
Digital transformation emerged as a cornerstone of aged care’s evolution, with leaders highlighting the importance of digitizing processes to meet shifting demographics, regulatory demands, and rising consumer expectations. Finance leaders were urged to leverage automation, enabling them to focus on strategy while improving care outcomes.
Telstra Health is leading the way with our Clinical Manager platform, which not only supports care minute tracking and AN-ACC funding but also incorporates tools like our newly developed assessment forms. These forms, created through over 850 hours of research and extensive collaboration with aged care providers, ensure compliance with the upcoming Aged Care Act, reducing the burden on staff while enhancing care quality.
As the aged care workforce faces systemic challenges, discussions at the conference focused on diversifying recruitment, leveraging migration, and aligning training programs with industry needs. Wage increases were seen as a step forward but insufficient on their own to address the sector’s broader challenges.
Telstra Health supports workforce resilience through technologies that reduce administrative load, enabling staff to dedicate more time to care. For example, our award winning integrated handheld solution, CareKeeper, enables care staff to be clear on their list of tasks and allows them to document by the resident’s side via a mobile device, providing more opportunity for a personalised connection. The app can help create a positive experience for all by providing care staff with an easy way to document on the go, help improve care delivery oversight for management, and help increase one-on-one time with care staff for residents.
The upcoming Aged Care Act was a significant focus, with conversations exploring its rights-based framework and the need for providers to adapt swiftly. Discussions highlighted that the Act is not an endpoint but a foundation for ongoing reform.
Telstra Health’s suite of tools, including the newly designed assessment and care planning forms in Clinical Manager, positions aged care providers to navigate these changes confidently. By ensuring compliance and simplifying transitions, we’re helping providers stay ahead in this critical period of reform.
At our booth, aged care professionals engaged with our latest innovations, including the integration of PBRC with Resident Manager. This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to providing seamless, effective solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the sector. Telstra Health is dedicated to empowering aged care providers through cutting-edge technology, comprehensive support, and a forward-thinking approach that aligns with the industry’s transformative journey.
As we look to 2025, the opportunities to innovate and improve aged care have never been greater. Together, we can continue to inspire, innovate, and impact the lives of older Australians.
